St. Matthews Farmers Market Seeks A New Market Manager for the 2024 Season. After more than a decade of involvement with the St. Matthews Farmers Market, Market Manager, Zane Stum is stepping down to focus on school and pursue other interests. Zane grew up at the market and while we are sorry to see him go, we certainly wish him well! A Manager is sought to organize the market each Saturday.

Are you a passionate advocate for fresh, locally grown food? Have experience organizing events, working with farms, vendors and the public? Are you a customer maniac? Then this might be the right part-time position for you.

Job Title: Farmers Market Manager
Type of position: Seasonal, part time
Compensation: $200 per week (2nd Sat in May to last Sat in Sept)

St. Matthews Farmers Market is hiring a farmers market manager for the 2024 season. Market
Manager is responsible for set up and break down of the market, maintaining the market display
throughout the day, and providing excellent customer service. Responsible for internal
communication with farms and vendors. Manager organizes vendors, schedules alternate
vendors and communicates regularly to ensure a full market set up. Manager assists volunteers,
including musicians, and organizes breaks for volunteers.

Market Manager also responds to incidents, provides assistance, and renders aid. Assistance
with market communication is requested. Reports to and assists the market board. Preference
will be given to qualified applicants who have experience or are interested in farming and
agriculture.

Schedule
The St. Matthews Farmers Market is on Saturdays from 8 am to 12 noon from 2nd Saturday in
May through September. Market Manager arrives to set up and greet vendors at 5:30 am.
Breakdown begins at noon. The Manager departs after all booths are broken down, trash is
taken to the dumpster, the parking lot is clean, and all is locked up.

Market Manager should be able to multitask and be comfortable talking with a variety of people throughout the day. Gardening or farming experience is helpful but not necessary.
You must have reliable transportation. You must already live within commuting distance of the
Market. You must be able to lift 50 points and be comfortable setting up and breaking down tents, and attending to farm needs in loading and unloading produce.


Applicants should be:
• Self motivated
• Familiar with using vegetables in the kitchen
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Conscientious and respectful
• Willing to provide instruction
• Able to work independently
• Capable of working outdoors in adverse conditions
• Capable of doing a day of physical work
• Able to lift and carry 50 pounds
• Comfortable with numbers and basic arithmetic

Bonus skills and experience:

• Vegetable farming experience preferred
• Other agricultural experience
• Customer service or retail experience, particularly in a farm, grocery, or
food service setting

About the Market:
Now in its 17th season, St. Matthews Farmers Market is located at 4100 Shelbyville Road on
the campus of Beargrass Christian Church. We host 2000 visitors per week who purchase meat,
vegetables, fruit, and flowers from more than 50 farms and visitors in the local community.
We promote healthy living and encourage responsible stewardship of the earth.
